Smoking is especially unhealthy for young people because it produces adverse effect on the blood. The red blood corpuscles of young persons are not yet fully developed. They are not yest fully charged with their normal supply of oxygen. This is why young boys who smoke are pale. Palpitation of the heart commonly results from this lack of oxygen. This may be followed by permanent weakness. The whole system may be enfeebled and mental as well as physical vigor impaired. Most teachers can tell who among their students are addicted to smoking merely by their appearance. This addiction is also evident in their intellectual and bodily indolence. The evil effects of tobacco are not so evident in mature people. But competent physicians assert that tobacco cannot be safely used by anyone.
