Answer:
The art of Ancient Rome and its Empire includes architecture, painting, sculpture and mosaic work. Luxury objects in metal-work, gem engraving, ivory carvings, and glass are sometimes considered to be minor forms of Roman art,[1] although they were not considered as such at the time. Sculpture was perhaps considered as the highest form of art by Romans, but figure painting was also highly regarded. A very large body of sculpture has survived from about the 1st century BC onward, though very little from before, but very little painting remains, and probably nothing that a contemporary would have considered to be of the highest quality.
The architecture, paintings, sculptures, and mosaics of Ancient Rome and its Empire all fall under the category of art. Although they were not regarded as minor forms of Roman art at the time, luxury items made of metalwork, gem engraving, ivory carvings, and glass are often considered minor forms of Roman art[1]. Romans may have viewed sculpture as the best form of art, but they also held figure painting in high respect. Very little art, and likely nothing that a contemporary would have deemed to be of the finest quality, has survived
from before the first century BC, but a sizable body of sculpture has from then on.
