There is a story which we all knew about the turtle and a rabbit that had an argument who was faster. To settle their argument, they decided to do it with a race. They both agreed with a route and started the race. As expected the rabbit runs ahead, seeing that he is far from the turtle, he thought of sitting under a tree to sleep and relax before he can continue to the finish line, as he was asleep the turtle overtook him and finished the race. When he woke up the turtle emerged as the champion and rabbit realized that he had lost it.
The lesson learned from the story is that slow and steady wins the race. But the story doesn’t end there, the rabbit was disappointed and after losing did some reflection, he realized that because of his overconfident and carelessness made him lost it to the turtle. He thought of challenging the turtle again to a race, vowing to himself that he will not take this race for granted. The turtle accepted the challenge, this time the rabbit gives all his might and ran all the way up to the finish line. The lesson learned that fast and consistent always beat the slow and steady; it’s good to be slow and steady but it’s better to be fast and reliable.
But the story continues, the turtle realized that he cannot beat the rabbit to the current racing format, he thought of challenging the rabbit and made some slight changes in the route of the race, the rabbit agreed. As they raced on, the rabbit expectedly ran at top speed, showing how consistently fast he is, but suddenly he halted, there is a river that gaps between his locations, few kilometers to the finish line. As he sat there thinking what to do, the turtle got into the river, swan to the opposite bank and continue on walking and finished the race. The lesson in the story tells that one must know and identify his competency and change the environment or playing fields that suit your competency.
The story had a finale, the turtle and the rabbit became good friends, and they decided that if they can make their abilities together they can run much better. They agreed for another race not as competitors but as a team. This time the turtle carried of f the rabbit on his back across the river bank and started swim together, on the opposite side the rabbit carried the turtle until they reached the finish line together. Both of them felt a sense of satisfaction.
The lesson learned from the story is that it’s good to be individually brilliant with competency but as the person with a team that harnesses all their capabilities, a person will work below the level because there is always a time that there’s poor performance and someone else does better. In teamwork, leadership is based on the situation by letting the person who is capable to take in the lead.
Two heads are better than one. The usual quotes on teamwork, which I can see the evidence on how the team worked on uneasy tasks but yet the group surpassed the challenges until it’s done. I don’t see myself as the best brain in contributing the input and output on our writings but because of the team’s effort, I can say we’ve done well.
