A stereotype is a widely held, simplified, and essentialist belief about a specific group.
Types of stereotype:
-Cultural stereotype (example :People from X country are better than people from Y country.)
- Social stereotype (example: X group is unfriendly and prudish.)
-Racial stereotype (example: People from X race are not as good at something as people from Y race.)
- Gender stereotype (example: People of X gender are all bad drivers.)
- Religious stereotype (example: People who practice X religion are extremists and hypocrites.)
How do stereotypes affects you and what should you do about it?
When people are in a situation for which a negative stereotype about one of their identities is relevant to the situation, relevant to what they're doing, they know they could be possibly judged or treated in terms of that stereotype. They don't know whether they are or not, but they know they could be. That prospect starts to threaten them and upset them and distract them and can affect performance right there in the situation.
Hope it helps^^
