The main conflict, or problem, in Matilda is that most of the adults are cruel to the children throughout the novel. This is solved in the end when the Wormwoods allow Matilda to live with Miss Honey and Miss Trunchbull leaves after her ''encounter'' with her brother Magnus.
Matilda is recommended for kids ages six and up. If you do have a young child, ask an usher for a booster seat so he or she can see over the giant adult heads in the way. The production requires some staying power: it lasts 2 hours and 34 minutes with one 15 minute intermission.
The film has a cult following of millennials who grew up watching it and still love it, despite being terrified by some of the scenes as children. Much of the terror forced upon the kids in the film can be attributed to the brutish Miss Agatha Trunchbull, who is one of the scariest characters in children's literature.
Matilda teaches us that people can escape through reading, as she struggles to understand or be understood by her own family. ... Moral of the story: Reading can transport us to imaginary respites that can bring us much joy.
