"Only the wearer knows where the shoe pinches" is an apt statement for Ali in the story letter. Only Ali felt the pain and remorse when his daughter Mariam left him.People used to make fun of him. In post-office, the clerks folled him by calling his name.Ali out of exitement ran towards them but there was no letter for him.That time Ali was the only one who felt bad,not the clerks.Even post master got annoyed by Ali's action but Ali never said a word. Later when the pst-master didn't get his letter from his daughter, lying un-well, he too felt that pain of separation. Hence,the given statement truly comliments the theme of 'The letter'
