I regularly use Word mail merge to send acknowledgement letters for donations to our 501(c)(3) club. Each one is personalized and acknowledges the person by first name and includes the receipt for tax purposes. I do them as a batch, collecting the information in an Excel spreadsheet as the donations are received.
