1. Location
In the ancient times, the Black Sea, located north of Turkey, bridged the commercial activities of Greece and Rome to the Byzantine Empire. Today, this sea continues to provide its surrounding countries resources such as fisheries and seaside tourism. As to its literary significance, the Black Sea occurs in such tales as the Golden Fleece and Noah’s ark. Historical places like Constantinople and Istanbul, even the kingdom of Troy – all of these have touched the waters of this sea. Indeed, the Black Sea is an economically and historically significant body of water.
2. Government
Since its birth in 1923, modern Turkey had followed a one-party rule system. Mustafa Kemal was the first president of modern Turkey. He was given the title” Ataturk,” which means” Father of the Turks.” His leadership was authoritarian, which includes many changes in the legal and political aspects of governance. His leadership style earned the criticism of many who formed opposition parties, especially those who value democracy. In 1950, therefore with government experimenting on a multi-party form of politics, an election was conducted.

3. People’s Occupation
One of the major economic sectors of Turkey is clothing the textile. In the whole country, there are over 50,000 textile and clothing companies supplying local and international clothing lines. They employ millions of their population to the textile industries. In the whole world, Turkey competes with such counties as China, India, and Syria in terms of cotton production and consumption.
4. Religion
In Turkey Muslims comprise more than ninety-five percent of population. However, there are disputes over what part of Turkish life should be Muslim. Turkey is the only Muslim land that has no state religion. People enjoy religious freedom, and as such, Christianity continues to thrive throughout the country. The early Christians were believed to have reached this part of Asia after the crucifixion of Jesus Christ.
5. Language
In 1928 the language spoken by Turkey was changed to a Latin-based system from what is originally an Arabic-based language. Initiated by Kemal Ataturk, the first president of the country’s republic, this language shift was meant to establish closer ties with the West. To do this, the government enforced the use of an” official script” to learn the Latin-based changed quickly. True enough, the Arabic-based system was soon replaced by the new language.
