Hagia Sophia

1. The Hagia Sophia, translated literally as” holy wisdom,” was built in the 6th century A.D. in Constantinople (now Istanbul, Turkey).
2. The structure, called Church of the Holy Wisdom or Church of the Divine Wisdom, stands at an amazing 55 meter from the ground.
3. The domed cathedral is one of the important Byzantine structures ever built.
4. Standing as a 6th-century edifice today, Hagia Sophia had undergone a series of destruction and rebuilding due to sociopolitical and religious unrest during those time.
