Nature is something that we all too often take for (1) ___________________. Yet, in order (2)

___________________ to become ill, we need to have regular contact with it – we need it (3)

___________________ a regular basis. Sounds (4) ___________________ torture, doesn’t it? Well, in

fact it is. Just as animals suffer when they are kept in cages, we humans soon (5)

___________________ ill in our own ‘cages’.

(6) ___________________ exactly we get from nature is not clear, so there may be several reasons

why a walk in the countryside makes us (7) ___________________ well. First of all, the oxygen from

trees and plants give a lift as this oxygen fills the lungs, then the blood, and then goes straight to the

brain, (8) ___________________ us that familiar feeling of well-being. More difficult to explain (9)
___________________ how the sense of smell works to make us happier. If something has a nice

smell, like flowers or grass, (10) ___________________ is likely that, apart from just being pleasant, it

aromas in nature remind us (12) ___________________ our childhood – a time when all of us were

younger, and most of us were fitter and healthier!
