When we inhale the diaphragm becomes flat and the chest cavity moves upward. this can be feel by you: see in rest position the diaphragm is dome shaped but then you inhale it becomes flat to increase the volume and when you exhale it again become dome shape to reduce the volume
when you inhale the chest cavity needs to be increased in this process it moved outward and a little bit upward too. but when you exhale it reduces the volume of chest cavityand in this order it comes down and inward.
