It is thought that working with local materials, local tradesman that your art will reflect your the way you live and therefore be more genuine. It is also a “greener” choice so that you aren’t shipping materials all over the place and you are using what’s at hand. That being said, it is always inspiring to me to try a new rare brush or tool used in another culture/time/place because I learn so much about how their masters work. I do admire those painters that use the plants in their garden for fibers and color. I think that’s grand.
