ional Information: Two ways of expressing concentration of solutions: Solvent - is the substance that dissolves and is present in large amount. Ex. Water Solute - is the substance that is dissolved and is present in small amount. Ex. salt 1. Percent by Volume (%v/v) - it is defined as the volume of solute present in 100 mL of solution Volume of solute 2. Percent by Mass (%m/m) -it is defined as the amount of solute in each mass of solvent. It is Volume of solution expressed in grams of solute per 100 grams of solution Mass of solute Percent by Volume = -- x 100 Percent by mass = -x 100 Or Mass of solution Percent by Mass Mass of solute x 100 Mass of solute + Mass of solvent
