Beep, beep, beep, beep, beep. Here starts another morning of waking up at 4:30 a.m. and getting ready for workout at five. Drowsily, I get out of bed to put on my leotard and brush my teeth and make sure my hair is out of my face. I eat a quick breakfast on my way to the gym. I am one of the six gymnasts here this early in the morning. We start running once the clock hits five. We run for a straight twenty minutes moving all of our limbs at the same time. We sit down to start stretching. I always lead the stretches. We do everything as a team. We run together, we stretch together, and we get in trouble together.
Once we are through stretching, our coach tells us how much harder we need to work today. We always condition in the mornings. We start on the high bar by doing chin-ups and leg lifts. Then we move over to the rope. We have to climb the rope all the way to the top without using our legs. It is very difficult for me. Now we go work on our abs. We do upside-down sit-ups. Our coach always lets us get some water at this point. We are so worn out by this point. Now we work on legs. We do frog jumps and lunges all the way around the gym. Then we do sprints one after another. We are all so out of breath. Now we do handstand walks for our wrists and shoulders. Finally, we are done with conditioning, and it is time to go to school.
