Let's Think About This Have you ever had a cold? A cold is caused by a virus, a very small but harm particle that causes the nose to produce a lot of mucus. Mucus is the syrupy fluid comes out of your nose. When this fluid accumulates, the nerve endings of the no used for smelling are covered up.
