"There's MONEY in TRASH."

- This adage is proven true as a Filipino youth, Jed Christian Sayre, won the International youth award (IYF) on October for his innovative community project that teaches youth how to turn waste into a high-grade, organic fertilizer.

- Sayre was one of the 20 awardees of Youth Action Net Awards of IYF chosen among the different countries around the world. - IYF President and Chief Executive Officer William Reese said in the 10 years that they have been giving the awards, there have been about 200 awardees, nine of whom are Filipinos.

With his cousin, Sayre founded his project "Disadvantaged Youth Ecological Sanitation and Organic Vegetable Production Project" which aimed to promote simple, low-cost solutions to health, sanitation, and soil fertility problems in their rural community through the Ecosan Club.

Also, under the said project youth from the community were trained on how to transform human waste into fertilizer. It also helps to control the spread of disease, minimize water contamination, and improve biodiversity.

- Meanwhile, aside from the recognition, the awardees also underwent a one-week capacity-building program organized by the IYF, the Universal del Valle de Mexico (UVM), and the Sylvan/ Laureate Foundation (Dixter Glenn Tandog, The Reveille)
