Spinal Cord and the brain together make up the Central Nervous System. The spinal cord begins from the base of the brain which is called medulla oblongata, all the way to the base of the lower back. There are three main functions of the brain.
a) It responds to stimuli and gives quick responses. Spinal cord coordinates this reflex action without the help of brain.
b) It relays messages from the brain to the rest of the body.
c) It relays signals from the sensory receptors back to the brain.
