I) After independence , many measures were adopted to achieve self - sufficiency in foodgrains. India adopted a new strategy in agriculture like Green Revolution to increase the production of wheat . The success of wheat was later replicated in rice. ii) India has become self-sufficient in foodgrains during last thirty years because of variety of crops grown all over the country . The availability of foodgrains at the country level has further been ensured with a carefully designed food security system by the government.
