the maximum no. of electrons in a shell can be found using the formula 2n² , where n is the no. of shell
also , max no. of electrons in. a shell can be 8 electrons .
so for magnesium the configuration will be :-
1 st shell ( 2n²) - 2 x 1² = 2
2 nd shell (2n²) - 2 x 2² = 8
3rd shell ( 2n²) - 2 x 3² = 18 - but since magnesium has 12 electrons and 10 are already located so there will be 2 electrons in 3rd shell
similarly beryllium - 2,2
chlorine - 2,8,7
