Effects on Body Fluid Balance
Maintenance of body fluid volume and composition is strongly impaired by heat stress. Exposure to heat species specifically results in sweating, panting, or saliva spreading to increase evaporative heat transfer to the environment. As a consequence, the constancy of total body water is disturbed by its considerable decrease. In humans sweating heavily, water loss from the body can exceed 2 l/h.
