They look like travelling in the opposite direction when you are in a train because.. Think about it like this when you stand still and something moves past you, why are you able to perceive it? You can perceive it because their is a frame of reference. Or in other words everything else around you is still, and if something in motion passes these objects at rest you see a type of disturbance in the frame.
In a moving vehicle the time to perceive a frame of reference is relatively short because you are moving yourself, and since you are moving it is harder to perceive or determine a frame to refer to. So as you move your frame of reference constantly changes from one to the other. It's like looking at something if you change your gaze to something else you cannot perceive what you were looking at a moment ago.
The trees seem like their moving in the opposite direction because as you look at them while moving they leave your line of sight. If the tree was able to move along side while you were moving it would seem like everything else is moving except the tree because the tree would be your frame of reference the only stationery thing in your line of sight.
