1.Many teachers, students, and parents are proving to be remarkably resilient during this time when it comes to the effects of the pandemic on school, education, and student learning. It is not easy to teach in a physical classroom one day and turn it into a virtual classroom the next. Most college and university teacher prep programs do not have a course focusing on virtual teaching and learning (something they may consider doing soon).
2.At a small corner of a principal's office in a public elementary school in Laguna are a wooden table and two plastic chairs reserved for emergency health consultations between a teacher and an ill student.
3.The issue of online classes is one about access. More broadly, it is about the education system, and the problems that hinder us from making online classes a reality. The pandemic has also highlighted the need to improve the education system, and presents an opportunity to do so.
4.Research regarding online learning and teaching shows that they are effective only if students have consistent access to the internet and computers and if teachers have received targeted training and supports for online instruction. Because these needed requirements for effectiveness have been largely absent for many, remote education during the pandemic has impeded teaching and learning.
