In the perodic table, the periods are classified on the basis of the maximum number of shells that they have.
• As in the first period, the maximum number of shells is One.
• In the second period, no element has more than 2 shells i.e. tha max atomic Number is 10 (2+8), that is of Neon.
• similarly, in every period the max. no. of shells classify the number of elements.
• the discovery of elements is still going on and synthetic elements are also added to the modern perodic table.
• thus, chances of getting a new period i.e. the eighth period exists.
