1. Water starts to boil when When atoms or molecules of a liquid are able to spread out enough to change from a liquid phase to a gaseous phase, bubbles form and boiling occurs. When the atmospheric pressure is equal to the vapor pressure of the liquid, boiling will begin.
2. Water can exist as a solid (ice), liquid (water) or gas (vapour or gas). Adding heat can cause ice (a solid) to melt to form water (a liquid). Removing heat causes water (a liquid) to freeze to form ice (a solid). When you take ice cubes out of the freezer, the melting process begins right away because the air temperature around the ice cubes is warmer than the temperature in the freezer.
