Mercury is an excellent conductor of heat.
In order to understand why it is a good conductor the concept of thermal
expansion is to be known. We know that all particles contain matter . Thermal expansion can be considered as an ability by which matter can change its size,shape ,area,volume or density in response to the difference in temperature .
Mercury has high value of thermal expansion and hence it is used in thermometers too. Even a small change in temperature can fluctuate the mercury level in the thermometer and it has a low boiling point .
