For # 11 - 15. Problem:Anna wants to make a wooden rectangular frame
with an area of 280 in2 and a perimeter of 34 in. What should be the
dimension of the frame?
what is the relationship of the sum of roots of the equation in #12 to the given perimeter
Answers & Comments
The formula of finding the area of the rectangle is A=lw
The formula for the perimeter of the rectangle is P=2l+2w
lw=280
2l+2w=34
(2l+2w=34)÷2
l+w=17
Using the formula, x²-b/a x+c/a=0
Where -b/a is sum of the roots and c/a is product of the roots
x²-b/a x+c/a=0
x²-(17)+(280)=0
Using the quadratic formula in solving this quadratic equation, we notice that the roots are imaginary therefore the roots are not real.
The dimensions of the rectangular frame has no real roots.
hope this helps a little bit.
