When u carefully notice the leaves of desert plants they are narrow and pointed to decrease the surface area and slow down water lose through transpiration. Thats the reason most of the dessert plants have spines in their plant body... as their is shortage of water in dessert the roots of plants often grow deep down in the soil in search of water..!
