Substitute this value in place of x

p(2) = (2) - 4(2)^2 + a(2) + b

==>. 2 - 4(4) + 2a + b = 0

==>. 2 - 16 + 2a + b = 0

==>. - 14 + 2a + b = 0

==>. b = - 2a + 14 --------> equation 1

(x + 1 ) is divisible

Let, x + 1 = 0

Substitute this value in place of x

we get ;

p(-1) = (-1) - 4 (-1)^2 + a (-1) + b

==>. - 1 - 4 (1) - a + b = 0

==>. - 1 - 4 - a - 2a + 14 = 0 ( substitute the value of " b " from equation 1 )
