FIFA World Cup – 2022
32 countries are separated into eight groups of four teams, each with 11 players. Each team will play each other once in the group. The top two teams from each group then go through the last 16 round which is a knockout round-this means the winner goes through to the next stage and the loser is out of the tournament.
In the knockout stages (last 16, quarter finals, semi finals and the final) a match will last 90 minutes long unless it is a draw at the end of the match then extra time of 30 minutes will be played. If the match is still draw then penalty kicks will be taken to determine the winner.
Answer the following questions:-
1) During one match with no substitutes, how many football boots will there be on the pitch at once? ( Don’t forget the ref!)
2) How many teams qualify for the knockout stages?
3) If a player plays all the three group matches and one knockout game which goes to extra time- how many minutes will he have played?
4) How many matches will the winning team play in Qatar World Cup
5) Draw a model of football pitch. How many rectangles do you see in it?

During one match with no substitutes, there will be 22 football boots on the pitch at once (11 players on each team, plus the referee).
16 teams qualify for the knockout stages (the top two teams from each of the eight groups).
If a player plays all three group matches and one knockout game that goes to extra time, he will have played 270 minutes (90 minutes x 3 group matches + 30 minutes extra time).
The winning team in the Qatar World Cup will play a total of 7 matches (3 group matches, 1 knockout match in the last 16, 1 quarter-final, 1 semi-final, and 1 final).
A model of a football pitch would have a total of 2 rectangles (one for each goal). The pitch itself is not rectangular, but it is surrounded by a rectangular boundary.
