A transverse wave is one in which the displacement of the particles is at 90o to the direction of travel. In a water wave, the particles move up and down while the wave travels horizontally. All electromagnetic waves are transverse, the upper curve is called crest, the lower curve is trough.

If ,The direction of vibration of particles is perpendicular .Then these waves are said to be transverse waves It always form crests and troughs. which is mostly found in the sound waves.
