Jacob saw the greater blessing of the birthright and he went for it. Jacob looked at his brother, seen that his brother did not want his birthright, and decided to go for it.   Jacob's motives aren't pure, of course. Esau accuses him of deceiving. Jacob takes advantage of Esau's weakness. In a weak moment he extracts from his brother a binding promise. Jacob, in person, impersonated his brawny, manly brother Esau and was able to deceive his father into giving him the family fortune. The very nature of deception is that you don’t know you’re being deceived. Many people are willingly deceived and some things can appear to be true, but not be. but still God is merciful and can forgive us of sin, just like how he forgive Jacob of deceiving his father and stole the birthright  but there are some doors we forever close for ourselves by our actions, actions that cannot be undone. This is for us a sobering warning, which speaks directly to our character and what we value most.
