Exceptional Mae Sot is a tiny town along the Thailand -- Burma border. For many years, many Burmese refugees sought refuge in this place. Although their thoughts were on their homes across the border, they remained in Mae Sot hungry and sick while waiting for brighter future. It was here where Cynthia Maung and a few others worked for fourteen Cynthia Maung is a doctor from the village of Karen and was practicing there when the war broke out. In 1988, she packed a few clothes, got her medical reference book and fled to Mae Sot. As she joined the other exiles, she started treating those who were in a makeshift clinic even with very little supplies. So, she made clinic instruments Tom kitchen tools, boiled them in a rice cooker, and solicited medicines and food from o her relief workers.
