Dissolve a little amount sample in water in a test tube,chalk powder settles down. -Or- Add a few drops of conc HCl solution,effervescence indicates the presence of adulterant. Take ¼ of a teaspoon of the jaggery in a test tube. Add 3 ml of alcohol and shake the tube vigorously to mix up the content.
