Enrichment Activity 4: PHYSICAL OR CHEMICAL Direction: Determine the type of weathering for each number. If the event corresponds to physical weathering, write PHYSICAL; otherwise write CHEMICAL. 1. Rocks are worn away as a result of collision and friction. 2. Rock-forming minerals that react with water will form different kinds of clay minerals. 3. When water accumulates in the crack, alternate freezing and thawing occur, causing the rock to break apart. 4. The roots grow causing penetration into the crack, and eventually, break the rock. 5. When iron oxides, the mineral in rocks decomposes (rusting). 11​
