FIRST Q: well it depends to who they're surrounded with. if he/she's surrounded by immature and corrupted people then no. they'll just put on more trauma making one's self more secretive and private about one's self. but if his/her surroundings are people who can understand their feeling and is mature enough to encourage them to be more open with people then it can greatly help him/her recover from traumas. either way you dont have to worry if no one wants to listen to your problems or if no one ares about your mental health you can always consult a doctor and they can help you with your struggles.
SECOND Q: as a student, as much as possible i dont tolerate my friends who's making fun of our other friends mental issues. and making them realize that mental health is to be taken seriously. you can help them understand by making them understand that "what if youre in his/her shoes and someone like you are making fun of it". hope it helps
