I agree that grades are important because most people will judge how smart you are mostly based on your grades, examples of these are when you're applying for work. Some people will also belittle you when they notice they have higher grades than you which equals to them thinking they are smarter than you. Grades also changes how people see or treat you, based on my observation people are more likely to respect other people that are smarter or have a higher position than them. But the problem with grades is that this is what most people will look at first, some will not want to interact with you IF you have grades lower than average, this is also a problem since some people will judge you solely based on it. When you receive high grades your parents/guardians will be proud of you which feels nice at first, but as time goes on it will pressure children in to trying to keep their grades up to not disappoint them, so because of that some children get stressed and depressed when their grades suddenly drop down. But grades do not exactly measure how smart you are, some people are smart in other aspects, or for example some scientists in the past were not exactly high achievers in terms of grades. If you've listened, you might now wonder if I do actually agree that grades are important or not, I'm not sure if I'm allowed to both agree and disagree but if I could, I would. There are good aspects about grades and bad ones, but in my opinion, yes, grades are important since this will be the first thing people will see about you and some will judge you based on this fact alone.
