Science is not anything to do with “belief”. An idea is proposed which explains a certain phenomenon or occurrence. This is a “hypothesis” and needs to fit all current evidence from previous observations made or experiments done. The idea is tested using well designed new experiments and observations. Evidence builds up from the data collected and this either refutes the hypothesis or supports the ideas within it which then becomes recognised as the best model to explain the phenomenon using all the available evidence. This does not prevent others from also testing the findings and supporting what has become the accepted model. If a piece of data is uncovered which disproves the original model then the whole thing can either be overturned in favour of a new model or, as more usually happens the model is modified to accommodate the new information.
