Here is the brief history of Philippine Literature from Colonial to
Contemporary.
One of the common issue during these periods was injustice or oppression and because
of this, it reflected from the work of the writers. Some of the literary works mirrored the
subservience of the Philippines to the colonizers were Noli Me Tangere and El Filibusterism
by Dr. Jose P. Rizal, Kahapon, Ngayon, at Bukas by Aurelio Tolentino, and Sa Dakong
Silangan by Jose Corazon “Batute” de Jesus. Oppression brought dramatic situation on the
works of the writers.
