COLOR: Traditional colors for Central Javanese batik were made from natural ingredients and consisted primarily of beige, blue, brown and black. The oldest color that was used in traditional batik making was blue. The color was made from the leaves of the indigo plant.

In Indonesia, a well-known technique that has been developed for centuries is Batik. Batik is a patterned cloth made using a wax-resist dyeing technique. The traditional technique in creating the pattern involves applying melted wax onto cloth before dipping it in dye.

BALANCE: In traditional Solo batik, the wax is scraped off from areas that are to be dyed brown. This results in the characteristic “fuzzy” color of Solonese batik. On the North Coast of Java, the first wax is boiled out and the waxing process starts over again. This results in designs with clearer definitions.  

MALAYSIAN BATIK

COLOR:  Malaysian batik has big, floral designs. Malaysian batik colors are vibrant.  They use bright sky blue, crimson red, yellow, and grass green.

LINE:

Malaysian batik is also famous for its geometrical designs, such as spirals. Malaysian batik fabrics do have an international edge because they have brighter hues and more versatile patterns than the illustrations of animals and humans

BALANCE:

There are two main types of batik in Malaysia today; hand-painted and block printed. These types differ in production techniques, motif,  and aesthetic expression, and are often classified according to the tool that has been used.
