TIMBRE: Timbre is defined as the tone-color or quality which gives an identity to the sound. It is that feature which distinguishes one source of sound from the other. The sounds can be natural sounds, artificially produced sounds, musical sounds or non-musical sounds.
DYNAMICS: An Indian can determine at once the class of a stage song by the rhythm of the music. In structure, the Indian song follows the out line of the form which obtains in our own music--a short melodic phrase built on related tones which are denominate chord lines, repeated with ore or less variation, grouped into clauses and correlated into periods.
PITCH: ”Raga” is the name of the pitch system and also for specific formations of pitches and tendencies. The raga/raag/ragam is the essential melodic element in Indian classical music. A raga is a series of pitches similar to a European idea of a scale. (It is the vocabulary of notes for a piece of music.)
RHYTHM: Indian folk music is diverse because of India's vast cultural diversity. It has many forms including bhangra , lavani , dandiya and Rajasthani. Folk music has been influential on classical music, which is viewed as a higher art form. Instruments and styles have impacted classical ragas. It is also not uncommon for major writers, saints and poets to have large musical libraries and traditions to their name, often sung in thumri (semi-classical) style.
