Oxygen from the air we breathe enter the body through the nasal cavity. Inside the nose the air is warmed, moistened, and condition so that it wont irritate the respiratory system. I then goes through the pharynx, which attaches the nasal cavity to the windpipe, or the trachea. From the trachea, air passes through one of the two bronchi which terminates to left and right lungs. Air is then distributed to the individual air sacs called alveoli where gas exchange happens. In here, oxygen attaches to the hemoglobin in the red blood cells in the capillaries while carbon dioxide is released for expiration. Oxygenated blood then distributed throughout the body through the circulatory system.
