The pressure of each gas component in a gas mixture is the partial pressure of the
component. This is the pressure that the gas would exert if it alone occupies the volume
occupied by the mixture.
The partial pressure of a gas in a mixture equals the product of the mole fraction of the
component and the total pressure of the mixture.
According to Dalton’s Law, in a mixture of gases where the components do not react with
one another, the total pressure is the sum of the partial pressures of the components.
