 The pressure of each gas component in a gas mixture is the partial pressure of the

component. This is the pressure that the gas would exert if it alone occupies the volume

occupied by the mixture.

 The partial pressure of a gas in a mixture equals the product of the mole fraction of the

component and the total pressure of the mixture.

 According to Dalton’s Law, in a mixture of gases where the components do not react with

one another, the total pressure is the sum of the partial pressures of the components.
