Christopher Columbus was great sailor. He wanted to find a
new sea route between Europe and Asia. Columbus knew that
Earth was round, so he decided to sail westwards to reach Asia.
He made long voyage across Atlantic Ocean with small fleet
of three ships. After several months he landed on small island.
Columbus thought he had reached Asia, and he named island
West Indies. In fact, Columbus had discovered a continent that
the Europeans did not know about-North America.​
