HELLO USER,
Here's your answer:
Reaction:
H₂
+ Cl₂
----> 2HCl
Volume ratio =
1 : 1 : 2
(1 volume of H₂, 1 volume of Cl₂ and 2 volumes of HCl)
Given that, 4cm³ of Hydrogen is unreacted.
So, volume of reacted mixture = (36 - 4) cm³ = 32 cm
³
Now, 1 volume of H₂ =
Again, 1 volume of Cl₂ =
Actual volume of Hydrogen given at first = (16 + 4) cm³ = 20 cm³
Hence, original composition of the mixture was, 20cm³ of Hydrogen and 16 cm
³
of Chlorine.
Hope my answer is satisfactory...

Hii friend,
➡Equation :-
H2 + 2Cl = 2 HCl ( hydrogenchloride)
➡Explanation :-
From this equation , we see 1 mol H2 reacts with 1mol Cl2 and it forms 2HCl.
So, H2 and Cl2 reacts with equal volume according to the Avogadro's Law.
If you have 4cm^3 H2 left , then volume of gases reacting 16 cm^3 H2 and 16 cm^3 Cl2 due to 1 : 1 ratio.
Thus , at the start there was 16 cm^3 + 4 cm^3 = 20 cm^3 of H2 and 16 cm^3 of Cl2...i hope it helps you
