Explanation:
SHORT
1.Gerrard's charming conversation causes the invader to postpone his plan to kill him. As a result, Gerrard expresses his delight upon seeing him. This is a falsehood, as we all know. He wasn't overjoyed to see the felon.
2. As a reader, I would say that the sudden twist in the story was quite surprising! The way it seemed for a moment that Gerrard himself was a criminal left me in a awe, but as the story moved on and when Gerrard pushed the intruder and locked him in the closet, and then with a calm composure, he talked nonchalantly on the telephone was quite pleasing.
3. The intruder saw Gerrard when he was alone in his room. Gerrard noticed that the intruder resembles him in looks and that the person w who broke in was a criminal, and he had revolver in his hand.
LONG
1. The mystery that Gerrard proposed to explain was the story he made up to dodge the intruder and escape him. The story was that Gerrard himself was a criminal like the intruder. He asked why else would he not meet with any trades people and was all over different places. When things went wrong with him, he had committed a murder and got away. Unfortunately, one of his men got caught and certain things were found which his men should have burnt. He said that he was expecting some trouble that night and therefore, his bag was packed and ready to escape.
2. Gerrard push intruder into the almirah or cupboard by telling him that it was a room and he will be safe in that. Gerrard outwits the intruder by confessing that he himself is also an intruder and is expecting the police soon.
