Guide Questions:
1. At what position of the ball did you not see any lighted side of it? What phase of
of the Moon do you think it is?
2. As you rotated your body slowly, which side of the ball started to be lighted?
What phase does the tiny sliver of light from that side of the ball represent?
3. As you continue orbiting the ball around your body, what happened to the
lighted side of the Moon?

1. New moon
As the moon circles the Earth, we can only see a portion of the lit up side. When we can see 100% of the lit up side, this is a full moon. When we can't see any of the lit up side, this is called a dark moon or new moon.
