Based upon the slaking of lime experiment answer the following:
1. Why does the reaction mixture become hot ?
2. Why is hissing sound observed ?

Answer:

CaO+H

O→Ca(OH)

It is exothermic and combination reaction.

As the reaction is exothermic we can hear a steady hissing sound till the chemical reaction completes.
