There was no official first day of school during the pandemic. Rather, it was a start of an alternative learning program. Due to the threat of coronavirus disease (COVID-19), the way students teach and learn will also change in the coming school year.
The Department of Education (DepEd) reiterated in news channels that students and teachers will not be allowed to go to the school itself when classes begin.
The government implemented various methods to deliver their lessons to students in the coming school year. Though, still depending on the health situation of an area which “learning delivery modality” the schools there will implement.
One of the delivery modes is distance learning, where the teacher and student are not physically together or face to face.
Under it, children can learn through an online platform, printed modules provided by the school, and lessons that can be watched on television or heard on the radio.
At first, it was very stressful because of the lack preparation for everything. Also, my family cannot afford to boost our internet bandwidth capacity simply because we cannot afford it.
We chose the modular learning because it is easier and it saves resources, but actually it is not.
First, it is very boring and difficult to study by yourself. This system will be difficult on the part of the students. There will be many obstacles and distractions in their focuses and can cause additional stress and other things.
This system caused us the ‘feeling of isolation’ or seem to be stationed in an area where they cannot leave or go out. There will be no smooth communication or interaction with classmates like in a normal student life.
Student life is very enjoyable before the pandemic because we help each other in the classroom setting. Now, we just feel that school is no longer interesting.
