1. Any oasis or other area with palms etc. would be inundated by creatures that could make it there that otherwise would have died. Other than those that are able to easily adapt (or that already do not depend on rocks for their existence), some species will go extinct if they cannot or will not change their dwellings.
2. There might not be as much water in the atmosphere (transpiration) and so the water cycle might be changed, and the loss of trees and other vegetation can cause climate change, desertification, soil erosion, fewer crops, flooding, increased greenhouse gases in the atmosphere, and a host of problems for indigenous people.
