One family-related problem I have commonly encountered was communication problem. There were times when my family and I end up fighting each other because of misunderstanding and lack of communication.
How did it affect me:
It gives a negative feeling for all of us, especially me in particular. I don't like conflicts which is why I despise the home environment when it gets so gloomy and ice cold. I don't want these problems to arise but I also don't know how to handle them either.
Cause:
Generation gap and the frequent use of gadgets are the problems I see which causes the conflict-breaks.
Solution:
Step1.It is important that everyone agrees and decides to be respectful and patient with each other. Once someone feels irritated or aggravated, he should contain himself from shouting or from inflicting physical harm. This will prevent the early escalation of fights and misunderstanding.
Step2.Each person should be given the opportunity to speak. The reason why so many fights come about because only one side is being heard. Even if someone had difficulty to listen, it is important to take a break then come back again until his point is fully heard and understood. This will make the situation fair for everybody.
Step 3. Both sides should should think and discuss things over. Having released the burden on their chests and felt heard, the people invovled can now work a solution out. The situation itself can clear up the spotted misunderstanding on its own because communication between the sides are clear and understood.
We did try to incorporate these techniques and they worked out in the end.
Being patient and instilling good communication within the family has a huge impact on improving relations among each other.
